THE PERFECT BRONZED AND HIGHLIGHTED SUMMER MAKEUP LOOK

08/06/18

ALL ABOUT THE GLOW

You may have noticed that my most recent makeup looks, are a far cry from the full coverage bases and blown out eyes that I used to be so fond of. Don’t get me wrong, there’s always an occasion that calls for a more ‘done’ look and if I’m heading into a red carpet you’ll catch me rocking a smoked out eye and a fully set base, but my everyday preferences right now are taking me almost half the time to get ready and I love it.Traveling to some hotter climates recently changed things up a little but for the most part, there have been some holy grails that are permanent fixtures in my makeup bag that won’t be leaving anytime soon. Cue a dewy base, glossy eyes, my signature nude lip and a highlight you can see from space – these are the pieces I’ve been reaching for the most over the past 6 months including some old favorites and some new to me items I’ve been raving about over on my YouTube.

Here’s how to get the look!

The Light Base

A quick mention to my skincare of choice right now and for the past 4 months, which is the incredible AlumierMD. I have religiously been using the under eye brightening cream, the ultimate serum, recovery balm moisturizer along with their SPF 40 on a daily basis too. The combination of products after having my complexion analyzed by one of their experts, has my skin feeling the best it has in forever and I’ll go into more detail soon! However, for my base I have been loving the Vita Liberata Beauty Blur – if there’s one product from this post I’d love you to try out, it just has to be this one. Discovering Beauty Blur is what spurred on my makeup change around and I’ve been so happy with the results and I feel like my skin can breathe. This complexion corrector evens out your skin tone and leaves your skin with a luminous, radiant base that lets your own skin shine through while prepping your skin for any other products you choose for your look. My ideal shade is latte light.

The Extra Coverage

Although I am loving a much lighter and natural base there are still times when I need a little extra coverage in certain areas. Perhaps a breakout has reared its ugly head or those dark circles are just a little too heavy and in that case, I reach for my favorite combination of NARS Soft Matte concealer and Bare Minerals BarePRO concealer. Soft Matte in Cannelle is a favorite of mine for brightening the under eyes and adding a little radiance to dark circles. The formula is creamy, long lasting and doesn’t crease which I find is ideal for the warmer months – it also sets really well with a finely milled matte powder if you prefer an even more under eye matte look. BarePRO concealer in fair light is very full coverage so is great for covering breakouts and blemishes. I tend to use my fingers to warm it up and press it into my skin in any areas I find need a little extra help. And if I do decide I want some more coverage all over, I can choose to use Beauty Blur as my primer and reach for Armani Luminous Silk in shade 04 – perfect! Or, I must admit the new Dior Face and Body Foundation has become a new, very lightweight, dewy favorite.

The Light Bronze

With this lighter base, I’ve definitely been favoring a paler bronzer too. Bronzer doesn’t have to be three shades of orange anymore and there are so many more colors to choose from that really suit your particular skin tone. My current preference is definitely a cooler toned bronzer washed all over the face and then often used a little heavier for a subtle contour. I rediscovered Benefit Hoola Lite recently on my trip to the Maldives and it’s been a staple in my makeup bag since, especially in warmer climates. Just like it’s original sister, Hoola Lite is smooth to apply, super buildable but still natural on paler skin tones. Similarly, a newer discovery of mine is Guerlain’s classic Terracotta but in Light Cool that I use alone or alongside Hoola Lite. It’s slightly more coral tones are perfect to buff into the cheeks and across the forehead to give a more sun-kissed glow without being too heavy on top of a cream base. PS – Both of these look great washed over the eyelids for a simple, uncomplicated Summer look.

The ‘Lit From Within’ Highlight

Definitely no prizes for guessing which cream product is still top of my list when it comes to highlighting, no matter what the occasion. That’s right, the RMS Living Luminizer is still taking top place for a glow you can see from space. Because this look focuses on the glow rather than the shapes or colors, (no heavy contour or smoked out eyes) you can bet I finish this look off with this pot of gold every single time. I love to take my finger and pat this product on the high points of my cheeks, nose and brow bones to give any look that almost ‘wet’ highlight. Alongside the luminizer, my newest highlight discovery is the Mac Hyper Real palette. When I posted this look on my Instastories the amount of DMs I received asking what highlight I was wearing almost broke my phone! This palette is no joke when it comes to glowing and used with the RMS Luminizer this really is a dream team. I’ve been using this palette for my inner corner highlight as well as layered on my cheekbones and I just can’t get enough.

The ‘Pop Of Colour’ Eyes

One of the best additions to my makeup bag over the past year was unexpectedly the Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Summer Look Palette for 2017. This palette has saved the day for me numerous times when I’ve traveled and forgotten one or two items (it’s inevitable I won’t remember everything every single time) and every time it does I remember just what a great palette it is. Unfortunately, it’s no longer available to buy, but the new 2018 palette looks just as amazing and also contains that signature blue shade that makes me swoon. Apply it with a wet brush to intensify the color and use it to line your under eye for a pop of Summer color. To let the color shine I keep my eyes just as simple as my complexion and sweep my lid with layers of bronzer or I use the beautiful matte shades in my favorite Anastasia Beverley Hills Modern Renaissance palette.

The Signature Lip

I will always love a nude lip, preferably a darker shade to the outer and lighter to the inner to create an ombre effect and something that will last all day and/or evening. My current favorite untouchable trio is pretty much the only lip products, bar my beloved La Mer lip balm of course, that I’ve had to hand in my handbag recently. The first is my one and only Rimmel Lip Liner in Cappuccino to ensure no bleeding, the second is the Huda Beauty Liquid Lip in Sugar Mama for a dark nude base that is long lasting and the third is the Laura Mercier Velour Lipstick in Respect for a lighter matte look to the inner lip. The ideal nude lip looks for me no matter what the occasion.

I’ve worn this hat with so many outfits on this trip! It’s so versatile and I love how the rim is bigger than your average straw hat so it’s more of a statement.

DETAILS: WHITE RUFFLE SLEEVED DRESS | STRAW SUN HAT (worn with multiple outfits!) | RED ANKLE BOOTS | WHITE CROSSBODY

Isn’t the Eiffel Tower just magical?! It gets me every time. This is one of my favorite outfits I’ve worn! It was really cold the first few days we were in Paris, so when the sun finally came out we were so excited to not have to be layered up anymore. I had picked out so many cute pieces for the trip because I thought it would be nice weather so I was glad to finally get to wear some of them. 😂

I am so obsessed with this dress – the sheer detailing, the ruffles – it was one of the pieces you try on and can’t wait to wear! mytheresa.com has so many amazing spring pieces right now. It’s definitely my go-to for stand out pieces, like this polka dot dress! Love the sheer detail with the bows. I also got this Gucci tee and this See By Chloe Dress, and how cute is this cropped button up? Also got these mules – obsessed with the color and with the lower heel they are super comfortable.

And accessories! Parisian style is all about the accessories so I love all the hats (this one is so chic!) and the headscarves. A silk scarf is a must-have this spring – just tie it around a loose pony or messy bun, or even tied around your bag to bring in more color to your look.

I put together a few more of my favorites for spring below!

Hey guys! I got a million questions on my looks yesterday. I found this bikini for under $20 and bought it in 2 more colors – it’s so cute and I can’t believe what a steal it is! I also got tons of questions on my necklaces. I love the layered look with this choker and this pendant necklace. This cover-up is actually a dress I found at Zara. You can turn any button up dress into a pretty cover-up, just wear it open with your swimsuit and you can add a pair of cut-off shorts if you want more coverage. Lastly, obsessed with this bamboo bag! I’ve seen a lot in this style but I love the beaded shoulder strap on this one – so pretty! Here’s a similar option for under $50.

Below are a few more beach favorites below!

DETAILS: STRIPED BIKINI TOP (ALSO GOT THIS ONE) | STRIPED BIKINI BOTTOMS | BEACH BAG

Hey guys! I am in major travel mode this month! For some reason it always takes me forever to get my travel posts up, but I’m going to do better about it this year and try to post more in real time. My trip to Miami last week was pretty spontaneous (the snow might have been a deciding factor 😉 but it was such a fun way to start off the year! It was my good friend Jaci’s birthday (she used to be one of my photographers that I met through blogging 3 years ago and we just became good friends), so we thought a quick girls trip to Miami would be fun! Miami is like a world of it’s own – there’s so much color every and so much energy, I love it!

I always like to get a few new pieces for a trip – for some reason, it makes it all the more exciting to have new pieces to wear for a new adventure (tell me I’m not the only one who does this!). I usually order pretty last minute so I always look on Amazon first when I’m in a time crunch – nothing beats their fast shipping! Amazon Fashion has a great selection of all kinds of clothes and accessories from so many brands/designers at all price points. I found this bikini and also the rashguard version and couldn’t decide which – love them both and addicted to the lace up detail on all of them. I also got this bikini for under $20 and literally ordered half a dozen more from the brand for my next trip – they are so cute and an amazing price point so you can get multiple colors and styles! I also got this pretty beach bag – if there’s one must-pack for a beach vacation it’s a beach-appropriate bag. You don’t want to bring your leather totes or crossbody bags to the sand and surf, so I’m all about the beach bags. I also found this budget version of the bamboo crossbody I had in Miami. Also got these colorful sneakers -obsessed!

Do you guys have any fun trips planned?

Xx, Christine

I’m always on the search for a new pair of denim since I wear it daily. Unfortunately, finding the perfect fit is no easy task. I typically order a few new pairs a month, but after trying them so many end up going back. I have the hardest time with the thigh fit and of course the length, but most pairs I end up DIYing the hem so I’m never too focused on length. I just found this under $100 pair and I’m obsessed! I ordered them in this light color too and I’ve been switching off between each pair for the last few days. They’re super flattering with a higher waist and the distressing is perfectly placed. I go back and forth on premium denim – I will definitely spend up for the right pair, but with so many great affordable options, it’s really not necessary. Below I’m sharing the denim in my wardrobe that I wear most often. Levi’s and Asos are my go-to brands.
