5 TIPS FOR NOT OVERPACKING YOUR SUITCASE

Now I know my last post was about skiwear, so this is a harsh transition into beach styles. But everyone likes to travel to different parts of the world at this time of year. Yet, whether you like the snow or whether you like the heat, this post still applies. How to not overpack your suitcase and take items you don’t need. This is an issue for a few reasons.Firstly, weight. If you’re going over your luggage allowances, it’s going to cost you £60+. No one wants that smack at the airport when you have a holiday to look forward to that already cost you a fortune.

Secondly, efficiency. You want to get ready quickly for your dinner, but you’re sifting through so many items of clothing that you bought and don’t actually need, and it’s holding you up and making you confused as to what outfit would look best. Save yourself the aggro.

Thirdly, time. Who wants to have to spend time when you get back home, hanging up and washing all of those extra clothes that you took with you for absolutely no reason?! This is one of the biggest things for me – I detest unpacking.

Over the last few years, I’ve learned a few tricks for not overpacking my stuff and taking the items I do actually need with me. So I thought I’d share.

Plan your ItineraryHow do you know what you want to wear, if you don’t know what you’re going to be doing? It’s very very organized I know, and in some cases, you may not have any clue what you’re going to be doing. Especially if you’re backpacking for instance. But, if you’re going on a trip where you can plan a little easier, even just knowing if one evening you’re going for a super fancy meal, or another night more casual, this will dictate your wardrobe. So have a little research of the area you’re going to, what you can do there and create a bit of a schedule of things to do and places to go. Then, you can plan your outfits around all of these activities.

Plan your outfits.

Yea it takes some time, and in honesty sometimes I cannot be bothered in the slightest. But as soon as I do it, my packing comes together perfectly. Especially for my trips abroad for fashion week, this is absolutely essential. I take each item that is new or that I love, place it down on my bed, and start building up an outfit that I’d like to wear. I’ll then try it on to double check that it fits well and that all of the items fit together, and then I’ll take a picture in the mirror to remind myself of every item I was wearing. I cannot tell you how much this helps me.

Mix and Match

As you’re planning each outfit out, you’ll, of course, need to take items that you can mix and match with other outfits. Unless you want to take 4 completely separate outfits. I say if you’re going to somewhere hot, the chances are this will be fine, as most of your outfits will be tiny bikinis and thin kaftans. You can afford extra space. But, if you’re going skiing, or somewhere in need of jeans, you definitely don’t want to be carrying four bulky jackets or even four pairs of denim. You won’t have the room or weight. So, as you’re building up your outfits with your stack of favorite clothes next to you, ensure to double up or even triple up outfits with the items that are a lot heavier and bulkier.

Oh, AND, wear the largest of your items onto the plane too! The huge coat, get snug on the plane in it – or if it’s too big, stick it into the overhead bins. It’ll buy you loads of space back.

AccessorisingOkay so – first of all, work out if you can take a small wheel suitcase onto the plane with you as carry on. Most airlines will let you take one – some airlines who will not be named, only allowing you this and absolutely nothing else, so your handbag better fit inside it too! But find out if you can take this – as this allows you more room for items, but more specifically, a safer place to store your expensive things. Any jewelry, laptop, handbags or expensive items should go inside your carry on luggage. Just in case your suitcase goes missing, or, someone decides to steal from your suitcase. Trust me, it happens, and I know a few people it’s happened to, so be careful and keep your favorite items and accessories close to you.

And of course, work out which actual bags you will need. And this is where your outfit planning will cross over. Work out which of your bags will match a couple of the outfit you’re taking so you can keep your accessories very minimal.

Beauty Miniatures are essential

It’s an obvious one, but my beauty products are the main weight in my suitcase. I like to take a lot. I have a bag for hair products, a bag for sun creams, a bag for makeup, a bag for makeup brushes and another for nighttime skincare. So that weight adds up massively. So over the years, I have collected miniatures wherever I can. Mini hairsprays, mini shampoos, mini toothpaste. You can either buy the minis of your favorite items at places like Boots, or Boots also stock little tiny packets of mini bottles, where you can decant your big products into them. Try not to miss this step – it will save you so so much room and weight, believe me! I have found it so helpful to do this, and find I have just enough that I need for a few days or a week away.

The Best Looks From Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week!

1 | Ralph & Russo

Inspired by their recent trip to Asia, Ralph & Russo’s S/S 18 collection explored hand-painted motifs, embellished crystals, ombre fringing, tassels and colorful jacquards that were reminiscent of their time spent in Tokyo and Seoul. And the finale…one for the books! My babe Camila Coelho graced the runway in the most gorgeous bridal gown embedded with 3-D Swarovski jeweled leaves, silk flowers, metallic embellishments, and a draped bodice!

2 | Christian Dior

Christian Dior made his show into a surrealist dream at this years Haute Couture Week. The whole show was centered around black and white, including the venue which had dramatic white curtains, huge bird cages, and white anatomical sculptures hanging from the ceiling. The show started off with his surrealist-inspired looks; checkered patterns, architectural swirls, monochrome outfits and then transitioned into red-carpet gowns featuring a lighter color palette in lavender, olive, and neutrals.

3 | Elie Saab

Elie Saab killed the runway for her S/S 18 collection. Think feathered details, oversized bows, beaded-to-perfection embellishments, and a beautiful color palette featuring champagnes, silvery blues, and metallics. Inspired by 1920s Paris, Saab incorporated retroelements such as short hemlines, modern shapes, and using beading over sheer linings.

4 | Zuhair Murad

Zuhair Murad has always been one of my favorite designers and does embroidery and beadwork like no other!! This season, his collection was an inspiration by “ancient tribes, notably the Sioux, the Navajos, and the Iroquois,” according to show notes. Classic ball gowns were taken to a new level and embroidered with arrows, cacti, and eagles..drawing inspiration from Native American culture.

5 | Giambattista Valli

Once again, Giambattista Valli turned his S/S 18 show into a real-life fairytale, with silky chiffons, crystal bows, and embroidered tulle. And for the finale..three “powder-puff” dresses with a pretty color palette featuring shades of peach, lime, and sugarplum-pink!

So many amazing collections this Couture fashion week!! Which ones were your favorite?!

nyfw day 2 recap: what is food

Happy Monday!! Today is actually my last day in New York as I fly back to Los Angeles today and I can’t wait to see the hubssss!! I’m sooo going to miss New York though, this city just has a certain spark to it– I just can’t put my fingers on what though. Today’s post will recap Thursday which was day two for me during fashion week!!

I woke up around 7am and had Glam Squad come to my hotel room to do my hair and makeup which is seriously the best service ever! Like, getting your hair + makeup done in the comfort of your own place in PJs? I could do that every day. The girls that did my hair + makeup were both originally from Sweden too so it was awesome being able to chat with them about their journey here! After getting ready, I made sure to make my first stop at Bollare because I seriously LOVE the team there. They always make sure you’re set to go for fashion week and treat us so so well. This year they had a 50s retro theme going on which was so stinkin’ cute!! I make sure to stop by Bollare to see the team every time I go. It’s a must!!

After Bollare, I stopped by to see my friends at the Riviere Agency as I was being fitted for the Dan Liu show on Saturday. This was my first time going to a fitting and actually getting a proper seat front row so I can’t thank them enough!! The show was incredible– more on that on a future recap post though! I picked this stunning blue dress and just couldn’t get enough of it!

I made some time on Thursday to shoot a few looks with a photographer I’ve been wanting to shoot for a while. Rebecca from BECKLEY and I seriously adore her. She’s sarcastic, witty and so fun to be around! I love her style of photography– she’s so effective, shoots quickly and does an AMAZING job! Highly, highly recommend if you live in Dallas! I literally brought all my camera equipment thinking I’ll shoot a few looks myself but nope I loved her work so much that I ended up booking her again on Sunday.

After shooting, I visited the Behrman PR team which I’ve been wanting to do for sooo long. They are such a great PR agency to work with and being able to have that one-on-one time is so so important! Unfortunately, though, the meeting ran longer than expected (which is definitely a good thing) and I ended up having to miss the Tadashi show!! I heard it was so good and saw pictures but didn’t get to see it live. Next time I hope!!

Since I missed the show, I actually ended up going to the Dr. Brandt event at Broken Coconut (such a cute spot in NY) and explored a couple of their new products! I’m already a huge fan of Dr. Brandt (their eye cream + magnetic mask) and I’m super excited to try their new stuff. I’ll share my review after a month or so! ๐Ÿ™‚

AND THEEENN I went straight to the Sam Edelman event and seriously had the BEST TIME! I finally got to meet the PR team and introduce myself!! Sam Edelman is a brand that I’ve been wearing for sooo long and for me to be invited to the event was a dream come true. It sounds silly, but events like these really make NYFW worth it and being able to put a face to a name is just so special especially in an industry as heavily saturated as this one. So happy I got to make it to this one!

To top off the night, I stopped by The Shoe Box event for a little bit since my girl from GiGi NY invited me! She’s such a sweetheart and would seriously never let her down! <3 I think I ended up coming home around 10pm and slept around 2am since I was working on emails + getting my blog post out the door for Friday, lol. BUT YES day two was definitely a busy one but every single event and meeting went AMAZING. I kept it pretty simple and wore one outfit for the entire day– this pink cropped sweatshirt from Abercrombie, floral denim, and shoes from Sole Society! It was Thursday so I kept the look a bit casual with some NYC sass! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ll share more looks throughout this entire week! Tomorrow’s blog post will be a recap of day 3 along with another outfit look– stayed tuned and THANK YOU for following my NYFW journey! Chat soon loves!PS — oh and if you’re wondering, there were 0 minutes in my day for food. I had a little aรงai bowl around 4pm though so that was fun.
